Winifred's father Charles H. Steward was born January 5, 1870 in Gattlin (Davies County), Missouri - he passed away in 1949 while living in Roseburg, Oregon.
Winifred's mother, Mary Emma Long was born July 22, 1876. After her husband, Charles passed away in 1949 she lived in Irrigon, Oregon until 1956 when she moved to Kingman, Arizona. She lived with her brother Wayne until her death in 1968.
Charles and Mary were wed in San Diego, California in 1902.
Charles and wife Mary Emma Long moved from Missouri to eastern Kansas in 1905. In 1909 they moved to a homestead twenty-five north of Lakin Kansas, where they lived until they moved to Oregon in 1918.
Winifred met Lyle Dean Seaman in high school, in 1922. They courted and married october 20, 1923.

On April 1, 1927 Lyle moved the family to his father's house at 4809 SE 66th in Portland, Oregon. Lyle first found work shoveling snow for the city. Then in the spring he opened a garage at 103rd Street and Foster.
Winifred did odd jobs and laundry to earn enough to buy a sewing machine with which she made all the family clothes.
In 1930 the family moved to Madras, Oregon where they rented a house for $5.00 per month. Lyle took a job at Chestnut's Garage. Lyle and his father, Nestor, spent time together fishing - it was great fun and put food on the table.
In 1932 the bank went broke in Madras. No money in town. Lyle worked for barter fixing cars in exchange for eggs, meat and produce. They took in two high school girls to room and board, who could not pay - but brought food from their parents farm as rent payment.
