The life and times of Wesley George McBurney
I was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on December 29, 1938 to Bernice Bell Helmka and William James McBurney. My mother and father separated when I was very young, so I do not remember much about my father. I have been told he drank a lot and was not around the house much. There were six children in my family, Lois Irene McBurney (Born May 6, 1929) to December 3, 1980) Joseph James McBurney (November 13, 1930 to April 2, 1990), Lloyd Sheldon McBurney (Born March 8, 1932), Margaret Louise McBurney (January 27, 1934 to November 5, 2002), Janice Lorraine McBurney (August 23, 1935 to August 8, 1987) and Wesley George McBurney (Born December 29, 1938)
In junior high school I worked around the school helping the janitor. In high school I worked at the local roller skating rink where some of my older siblings had worked before me. During my senior year in high school and the summer after graduation I worked for a construction company. In October of 1957 I joined the Navy and was discharged in October 1961.
After the Navy I stayed in Rhode Island and married Ann Marie McEvoy (Born 12/1/1937) whom I met at the local roller skating rink. I worked at a jewelry shop until I decided to attend New England Technical Institute and studied heating, ventilating and air-conditioning. In 1963 I graduated and gained employment at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. That lasted about 6 months. I obtained a HVAC position at Rhode Island Hospital in June of 1964. In January, 1999 I retired from the hospital after working there for 34-1/2 years.
Ann and I were married May 5, 1962 and have four children, Cheryl Ann McBurney Lachance (Born 1/10/1964); Paul Frederick McBurney (Born 6/16/1966); Peter Wesley McBurney (Born 7/6/1967); and Patrick Joseph McBurney (Born 8/21/1968)
We now have five grandchildren. Kristin Marie Lachance (born 11/20/1990); Jeremy Joseph McBurney (Born 12/28/1993); Julie Lynn Lachance (Born 7/25/1995); Ryan Michael McBurney (Born 1/19/1996); Nathalia Sastre (Born 7/6/1997).
