The life and times of Lloyd Sheldon McBurney
I was born on Tuesday March the 8th 1932 at Aberdeen, SD. At the time we were living in Bath ,SD. Bath is a small town about 7 miles East of Aberdeen, We lived there for about 3 or 4 years. The first home we lived in at Aberdeen was at 223 6th Ave. N.E. We lived there until about 1937. Then moved to 1115 6th Ave. N.E. We lived there until January 1942. Then we moved to 510 S. Arch Street were we lived there until I graduated from high school in 1950.
My Father was Williams James McBurney and my Mother was Bernice Bell Helmka (McBurney). My siblings are Lois Irene McBurney (Seaman), Joseph James McBurney, Margaret Louise McBurney (Johnson), Janice Lorraine McBurney (Tofte) and Wesley George McBurney.
The first school I attended was McKinley Grade School, kindergartner, first and half of second grade. The next school was Garfield Grade School, The rest of second grade through sixth grade. Then Roosevelt Junior High School Seven, Eight and Ninth grade. Then Aberdeen Central High School, Tenth, Eleven and Twelfth.
When I was growing up I worked on farms and for the KO Lee Company.
In March 5, 1951 I joined the United States Navy and after Boot Camp I was station aboard the USS Midway CVB 41. Which is now CV 41 Aircraft Carrier Museum in San Diego, California. In 1953 I was sent to Electrician’s Mate Class “A” School, Class 2303 at the USNTC Great Lakes Illinois. My Class Standing 5th of 58. I was Honorably Discharge on March the 1st as Electrician’s Mate Second Class, USN.
After the Navy I went to work for Arrow Electric, Tadlock Electric, and Independent Electric, I then started Mac’s Electric on April 15, 1963.
On New Year’s Eve 1956 I had a date with Patricia Ann Lochter, We were married on October the 3, 1956. Steven are only Son was born on August 2, 1957.
I retired at the age of 61 because of my heart. My son Steven has the company and is still in business. I still enjoying my retirement and helping Steven with the business.
Pat and I have been married for 55 years and still live at 323 N. Kline Street Aberdeen, SD.
